Members renewing their dues at this meeting were: Anita Hesser, Shirley Lant & Ray & Bev Benjamin.  The dues money was received by Secretary Lant, counted and given over to Historian Rodabaugh to forward to Treasurer Smith for deposit.  The membership roster was updated.

Secretary Lant read the minutes from the last meeting.  President Campbell asked if there were any corrections that needed to be made.  As there were none the minutes were accepted.

New Business:
1) There will be a presentation at the Park Church in Elmira, NY featuring the reading of the loveletters of Mark Twain & Olivia Langdon.  This coincides with what would have been their 142nd Wedding anniversary.  This will take place on Thursday Feburary 2, 2102.  They have requested an RSVP and there is a $10.00 cost per person.  Attendees are encouraged to dress up as there is a Wedding Buffet afterwards.
2) The Chemung Valley History Museum is putting on an exhibit the month of March and willbe featuring Talitha Botsford.  Rita Rhodes will be the Curator.  She has asked that anyone who might have Talitha items consider loaning them for this exhibit.  The Museum has a form for lenders to fill out so items are properly marked.  The members present were asked if they had any objection to the society loaning items and there were none.  Historian Rodabaugh will take charge of getting the paperwork filled out and the items the society will lend to the Museum.  Anyone interested in loaning their personal items should contact Rita Rhodes @734-5703 or734-4167 at the museum.  Her address is 310 Harris Hill Road, Elmira, NY 14903.
3) President Campbell read some excerpts from a couple of websites with regard to the the town.  Some mentioned the prior names of Millport & Sullivanville and one was a humorous story about a young George Parsons encounter with an Indian.
4) Gloria asked that anyone knowing individuals who could be contacted as speakers to please get those names to her.  She will be glad to contact them.
5) Gloria made a suggestion that each of us take an hour out of our day to write down our own memories of our time here in Veteran.  She related some of her own memories since moving to the town in 1956.  The idea is to have all of these writings in a book for everyone to see.
6) Ann Lant told of an episode of "Antiques Road Show" she recently saw.  It featured a crock with the Havana name on it which was appraised for $30,000.00.  So you never know what you may have in your closet, attic, cellar, barn etc.
7) Jean Seymour made a suggestion that we try to get someone, such as an archivist, to come and give us ideas of how we can preserve our own historical items.  Ideas such as how to store things, insuring, etc.
8) Historian Rodabaugh mentioned the recent article in the Elmira Star Gazette which asked for memories, photos, etc. of folks who attended our One Room Schoolhouses.  Dick Coon brought a photo of the One Room School & class for all to see.  He included the names of the students.  Al Dalrymple also sent along a photo of the One Room Schoolhouse he attended.  It is of Hickory Grove School #9.  Historian Rodabaugh also asked for information regarding the town Churches for a display he will set up in March.
Old Business:
1) Gloria discussed several websites she has researched regarding By-Laws.  She stated againthat once we are organized, in that we have all of our officers as well as a board would be more apt to be eligible for Grants, etc.
2) Ann Lant was selected for the office of Vice President.  Jane Palmer & Ray Benjamin were selected as members of the board.  A third person will be needed as well.
3) A date was set for the officers & board to meet to begin the process of setting up the By-Laws.  It will be Thursday January 26, 2012 at 7 pm at the Town Hall.
4) We raised a total of $87.50 at the Sullivanville Church Craft Fair in Decemer 2011.
A motion was made by Ann Lant to close this meeting to enjoy refreshments.  It was seconded.
Our next meeting will be Thursday 8 March 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall.
Respectfully Submitted,  Shirley Lant, Secretary
